 New and Returning Member audition Information 




2019-2020 String Auditions For The Austin Youth Orchestra 
   
Symphony, Philharmonic and Sinfonietta Orchestras Only
Membership in AYO Symphony, Philharmonic and Sinfonietta Orchestras are open to all interested orchestra students (grades 6 - 12) from throughout the Central Texas area – public school, private school, charter school, and homeschool – and will be determined by the audition process. Students from schools with orchestra programs must be a member in their school orchestra and will be verified at the beginning of the school year with their orchestra director.  There is  $20.00 audition fee to be paid at the time of registration.

Membership Requirements
Wind, percussion, piano and harp performers for the Symphony Orchestra and Philharmonic Orchestra performances each spring semester are selected/invited for AYO membership based on the results of the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) Region Orchestra auditions. Performers on these instruments are NOT auditioned by the Austin Youth Orchestra.    

If accepted in the AYO program, there is a $400.00 per year tuition fee for each participating member. Members must pay the entire fee in the first semester as each student will receive comprehensive and intensive orchestral experience, the opportunity to work with The Austin Symphony and University of Texas School of Music members and directors, and regular performances and exposure to literature of the highest quality. There is many free and discount 
performance opportunities around the city given to all AYO members. Membership with AYO is for the entire year and students who drop out second semester will not receive a refund for any tuition fees.  Membership in AYO is contingent on receipt of the tuition fee and return of the membership acceptance form signed by the student's orchestra or band director at the beginning of the fall semester.

Rehearsals for the three orchestras are held weekly on Monday evenings at the locations/times indicated below:
