Prospective New Members: How to Audition
Membership in AYO is open to all interested orchestra students (grades 3 - 12) from throughout the central Texas area – public school, private school, charter school, and homeschool – and will be determined by the audition process. Students from schools with orchestra programs must be a member in their school orchestra.
String auditions for Austin Youth Orchestra (AYO) program for the 2018-2019 season will be held as follows:
Wind, percussion, piano and harp performers for the Symphony Orchestra and Philharmonic Orchestra performances each spring semester are selected/invited for AYO membership based on the results of the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) Region Orchestra auditions. Performers on these instruments are NOT auditioned by the Austin Youth Orchestra.
If accepted in the AYO program, there is a $135.00 per semester tuition fee for each participating member. Members will receive comprehensive and intensive orchestral experience, including regular performances and exposure to literature of the highest quality. Membership in AYO is contingent on receipt of the tuition fee and return of the membership acceptance form signed by the student's orchestra or band director.
Rehearsals for the seven orchestras are held weekly on Monday evenings at the locations/times indicated below:
